[UK] Still hunting for Elsa's Ice Castle?
Posted by Huw,
It's back-ordered until the end of February at shop.LEGO.com and personally I've not seen it on the shelves in any shops yet. However I did manage to buy one at the weekend in Argos.
Argos' new catalogue is published on Saturday but as you may have read last week, many new products have been added to its website already. So if you're trying to get hold of one, I suggest you reserve one now before the masses notice it in the catalogue at the weekend.
I haven't built mine yet. My 20-year old daughter wants to: that's the power of Frozen!

A word of warning: I tried to buy Elsa's castle from a branch of Argos on Thursday and despite having successfully reserved it online ("available for collection immediately!") they could not/would not sell it to me as it was marked as 'not for sale' on the system. The manager claimed it was a problem he needed to resolve with head office the following day (it was about 6.30pm when I was there) as allegedly there was no one he could contact there and then, and he said would contact me to tell me it was all sorted and ready to collect the next day, to avoid me having another fruitless journey. He never got in touch with me at all and I am still awaiting an email response from Argos customer service about this situation.
In the end, he probably did me a favour as I should be saving some money but all in all it was a very frustrating experience.
My other half managed to pick one up on Friday which was when the email I got said they'd be in stock after reserving at the beginning of the week.
I just saw 4 of them in the window of the toy shop on Whitton's high street, if anyone fancies a trek to the outer reaches of west London suburbs. 30mins from Waterloo ;-)
Enchanted wood in Farnham had several in stock. I picked one up for my wife's birthday, she has a thing for Olaf :)
Sorry to hear that @lost. I paid for mine (and another 2015 set) at one of the automated machines and had no problem at all, otherwise I would not have posted this.
There have been plenty of these available in Belgium. There was a whole shelf full at the nearby Cora supermarket before Christmas and there were some left at the weekend.
Just saw the price of the T-16 Skhopper, TIE Advanced Prototype and the Technic Off-Roader.
May have inadvertently 'Let one go'.
Conversely, the Ice Palace itself, and the City Starter Set, seem to offer excellent value for money. The Milton Keynes brand store put their Ice Palaces out on Boxing Day, and sold their entire stock within hours.
John Lewis appear to have 61 left as of my posting?
This has been a Unicorn Princess situation waiting to happen since the moment they announced this set. I want to buy 3 now just so I can sell two and retire in December of 2015.
Speaking of which, has anyone noticed the smell coming from the bag when you cut open a unicorn-girl packet? You will be seeing sparkly rainbows if you get too close...
^ Somebody needs to tell Pitfall69 about that! :-)
I tried pleading my case with the Argos manager when I was there, as I knew others had overcome the problem (and I was buying another 2015 set that went through without any problem!), but he wouldn't budge or ring anywhere. Very unhelpful. Hence my as yet unanswered complaint.
They had a couple at Enchanted Wood Toy Shop in Farnham on Sunday.
The Brighton Lego store got them in this afternoon.
Got the TIE Advanced Prototype on Saturday easily with the credit card tills. They only had one in stock but then Argos only ever seem to have 1 of each set above £20 in stock. Interestingly the ATDP might be SW's Ice Palace at the moment because it seems not to be available anywhere straight away, or at least that was the case at the weekend.
The Double-Decker Couch seems to be missing from quite a few branches.
There are a couple of shops in Malaysia have a lot of stocks for this.
I bought this yesterday :) One thing that annoys me is the spiral staircase, why does it have to be loose and revolve every time you move the set? It has annoyed me since it was introduced in the Harry Potter days. There ought to be an easy way of locking the top step so that it stays in place correctly. I guess a little bit of imagination is required to fix this with a few additional pieces, but why can't LEGO implement this in sets that use the staircase? End of rant :P
I ordered on 28th Dec from LEGO.com after it had just gone out of stock. Showing as 'In Warehouse' on my order status today & I think it was expected by 30th Jan originally. So looks like they may be restocked ahead of schedule (unless this is usually the case - can't remember ever ordering out of stock items before)
Honestly I can't see what all the fuss is about.
I enjoyed the movie. And it is nice to see a LEGO set with the three main characters. But it truely is a pourly minature of the 'real' castle. Not nearly enough ice/clear pieces, to much white and way to small.
I can't find an explanation for the popularity of this set.
^ It is Frozen. That really is the only explanation needed. It is why Minecraft sold and was a big deal. It was Minecraft.
JL in Reading has about 10 sets on the shelves!
Personally I care little for Frozen merchandise but this whole thing is intriguing. Guess this proves that Lego appeals to all kinds of kids (and kids-at-heart)
Plenty in the Lego Store in Brighton.
The gf just bought this at the Leeds Lego Store in the Trinity Centre.
Seemed to have a good supply in, as of today.
It has a kitchen?!!? Like in some other movie I didn't see. Am I being sensitive here?
Plenty of stock in the Manchester Arndale Lego store today... No Double Decker Couches or Detective Office though...
Good news! It's back in stock online in the US. Get it while you can.
